Affective Skills

Activities are designed so students are able to develop skills that will allow them to gain the full understanding of developing social skills and responsible behavior. (Approriate Practices Document)

Allowing students to have a chance to participate in physical education does not have to be based on how well they do. Having students understanding that they are allowed to try, fail, and then try again will help them understand they can't be perfect everytime they do something. Positive help from the teacher will keep them focused on the goal of developing the skill. Promote the use of working together in completing a task or goal.

The following are strategies help develop affective skills
  • Choice of equipment (Is there enough to allow all students to participate? Is the size of the equipment appropriate for the age of the students?)
  • Peer instruction where students teach each other and provide accurate and helpful feed back
  • All students participate in the sport activity, so no one is left out or ignored.
